Campers Woken by Strange Noise, Try To Figure Out What Was Outside Tent

Campers who were woken up by a strange loud noise coming from outside their tent were left scratching their heads at what it could possibly be, but they seem to have figured it out.

Instagram user @birchandbambi, or Amber, shared a clip of the screaming sound she heard from her tent in the middle of the night. The video went viral with more than 2.2 million views since it was shared on September 23.

The footage shows the beautiful area where Amber and her partner decided to camp, cutting to a view from inside the tent as a screaming animal can be heard.

Amber and her camping partner were left confused, trying to figure out what was making the noise. She wrote in the text overlay of the video: “Imagine this… you’re camping in the middle of nowhere [in] Vermont, you get into your tent for the night and fall asleep, and you wake up to this outside your tent at 4 a.m.”

In the caption of the clip, the Instagram user says that she was “woken up both nights/early mornings we spent sleeping on a farm about 1,000 feet up in a meadow in the hills.”

Amber added: “This noise was right outside our tent; the way we sprung up out of our sleep was unnatural. We spend the entire time trying to figure out what the hell it was.

“Most people said fox, but we knew it was way different. We thought possibly a bobcat, but they tend to stay away. After hearing a similar sound on my husband’s video game. I looked into it more, and I think I finally found the culprit.”

The animal, they suspect, was a deer. Wildlife Start says that the animal can scream loudly when they are in danger or when they have been injured. It can also happen when deer have been startled.

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department reports that the pre-hunt estimate for deer population in the state in 2021 was approximately 133,000 deer, a number that is lower than previous years.

However, people in the comments section of the post had an array of theories as to what the animal could have been.

“Sounds like a mountain lion,” posted @christianj101081.

@lilmintwoody commented: “Deer? I’ve heard them make pretty similar sounds.”

“I would definitely say a fox, I have heard that scream before,” wrote @ilovemoo.

“I was going to say bobcat because they make sounds like that, but most comments say deer.”
