Mama Dog Finally Trusts Human After 1 Year of Trying, Seeks Help for Pup
|Although a mama dog hasn’t trusted humans enough to get close to them, she finally let her guard down when her puppy needed help.
Izzy, known on TikTok as @thewander.pets, has been trying to tame a stray dog in the Philippines for over a year, but the canine didn’t trust her or anyone else who attempted to get near her. She feared humans. That is until the mama dog had nowhere else to turn after her puppy was hit by a car.
In last week’s TikTok video, the mama dog faced her fears and recruited Izzy to help. The dog knew she needed to ask someone to save her baby, which ultimately came as a shock.
“Mama dog doesn’t let anyone come near her,” Izzy told Newsweek via TikTok. “We have never pet nor touched her. This is the closest she’s come to any human contact when I rescued her baby.”
Still keeping her distance, the mama dog would hesitantly inch closer to her pup to indicate that her baby needed attention. The pup was sprawled out on the road. Even as the rescuer touched the pup, she didn’t move.
Izzy rushed the dog to the vet to get immediate attention. Luckily, the dog did not sustain any broken bones or serious injuries, which the rescue crew calls a “miracle.” But the pup is still under constant supervision and needs medication.
“She’s getting better each day but still having a hard time peeing,” she said. “Got her checked earlier today and she’s great! No serious long-term injuries.”
Other videos revealed that the team working with the puppy let her outside to reunite with the mama several times a day. They also managed to save five more puppies from the same litter, all of which will be up for adoption along with the mama.
“The other pups are great,” Izzy said. “They still get to spend time with their mom.”
Those interested in bringing home the puppies will need to undergo an adoption screening. People can message @thewander.pets via TikTok or Instagram. They welcome international adopters who are willing to shoulder the necessary transport expenses.
Touched by Izzy’s dedication to saving this mama dog and her puppies, the TikTok video amassed over 1.2 million views and 220,100 likes.
“She may of not needed help but she knew her baby did and she knew that’s all you guys wanted to do was help her so that shows she trusts you guys,” pointed out a viewer.
Another added: “A mother’s love really knows no species.”
Others hoped Izzy would adopt the puppy, but she said she’s already living with 11 cats and three dogs; otherwise, she would. She’s focused on going through the applications and getting these puppies off to their forever homes once they’re weaned off their mama.
