Controversial American TV star Thomas Gibson denied he was cheating on his wife after news leaked he had a relationship with a fan on Twitter.
American actor Thomas Ellis Gibson was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 3, 1962. His father, Charles M., was a progressive Democratic Lawyer, while his mother, Beth Gibson, was a social worker.
Thomas was the youngest of 4 children, and he developed an interest in acting very early in life. His parents registered him in Little Theater School, and he later went on to attend Bishop England High School.
The youngster was ten years old when he first took part in children’s theater. Thomas starred and studied alongside Footlight Players at the Dock Street Theater, appearing in his first play in 1973.
He moved on to the College of Charleston six years later and interned at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. After 18 months at the college, he won a scholarship to the well-regarded Drama division of Juilliard School.
Thomas graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. The actor made his first professional stage appearance in 1985, starring in David Hare’s play titled “A Map of the World.” In 1987, he made his TV debut in a guest role on “Leg Work.”
The American actor rose to fame when he appeared in the movie “Far and Away” in 1992. He has also starred in series like “The Kennedys of Massachusetts” in 1990. However, his breakthrough role on the small screen was that of Daniel Nyland on “Chicago Hope.”
His filmography also includes “Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City” in 1993 for PBS Studios and the NBC miniseries “A Will of Their Own” in 1998.
He also has directing and acting credits on the ABC Studios and CBS Television Studio series “Criminal Minds,” where he was chosen to play Aaron Hotchner. He first appeared in the show in 2005.
Thomas was married to actress Christine Gibson in 1993, and the couple shares three children. She rose to fame after starring in the movie “Octopussy” in 1983. They have two sons: Travis, James, and daughter Agatha.
The couple filed for divorce in 2014 after 21 years of marriage. The divorce papers stated that the union had become insupportable due to discord or conflict of personalities that made it impossible for their reconciliation.
It reportedly destroyed the legitimate ends of the marriage. Christine reportedly replied by filing a general denial. In December of 2015, Thomas responded with a counter-petition that reaffirmed his stance.
It took two more years before the divorce was finalized. Thomas was ordered to pay $3,000 a month in support of their three children. He is also expected to cover their private school extracurricular activities.
The actor would be allowed to stay at their home in San Antonio, Texas, every weekend he has custody of the kids. He was required to stay at their guest house otherwise.
News leaked that the American actor was in a relationship with one of his fans on Twitter while married Christine. They had reportedly been in a relationship for two years, and Thomas had also sent her a video of himself in the hot tub.
The actor later found out he got catfished, and the whole relationship was fake. Speaking to People, the actor explained he would never cheat on his wife.
He explained they had separated but were still living together because of the children. Gibson also admitted being a dad has been the most incredible experience of his life.
Thomas explained he, as a child, also experienced his parents go through a divorce, and it was essential for him never to undermine his marriage to Christine.
The actor said he and Christine spent a year and a half in mediation. The couple kept this a secret because they knew divorce was tough on kids, and publicly dealing with it was not a good idea.
Actor Thomas Gibson was fired from the TV series “Criminal Minds” after kicking writer and producer Virgil Williams while they were arguing.
The incident occurred while Thomas was directing an episode on the upcoming 12th season of the series. He and the writer got engaged in a dispute, and Thomas reacted with aggression and kicked the writer.
It was not the first time the actor had been involved in an incident during filming, as he once pushed another producer a few years prior. Thomas had to attend anger management classes. However, he was fired from the show.
The TV series was a co-production between ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios. The studio producers released a joint statement in which they explained his dismissal.
They also stated that creative details for how his character’s exit from the show would be addressed and announced later.
It was reported that entertainment industry lawyer Skip Miller and partner Sasha Frid would be representing the actor who wanted to sue the show’s producers. The lawyers were also evaluating whether to pursue legal claims.
After the incident occurred, it was reported the actor’s character in the series had been written off, and he would also be replaced as a director even though he was still under contract for the remainder of the season.
Their Human Resource Department was also investigating the incident. Speaking to Hollywood Reporter, the actor explained the incident occurred due to creative differences and disagreements.
Gibson declared he regretted his part in the altercation and explained the show’s characters and personnel always wanted to work together as a team to make the best show.
He loved the show and worked hard at giving it his all during his period on it. Gibson had starred on the series for 12 seasons as a lead character.
