Former WWE Superstar Reportedly In Talks to Sign With AEW

Ever since his tenure with WWE, Matt Cardona has been one of the most popular professional wrestlers in the world.

Completely reinventing himself from his Zack Ryder persona, Cardona would go on to win dozens of championships and take on monikers like “The Indy God” and “The King of the Deathmatch.”

Now, Cardona is starting to get involved with All Elite Wrestling, embroiled in a feud for the Ring of Honor (ROH) World Championship with Chris Jericho.

If reports are to be believed, this may not be the last time he’ll be seen with the popular promotion.

According to a report from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer suggested that Cardona could potentially find a permanent home with AEW.

“I know that there was at least talk of Cardona getting an AEW contract,” Meltzer said. “I don’t know if it’s gonna happen or not [or] if he’s already agreed. I guess we’ll find out, obviously if he beats Jericho. Which I don’t expect to happen but if he does obviously, they won’t do it unless he’s under contract.”

This theory was supported when Jericho attacked Cardona during a match at Game Changer Wrestling.

In the end, it would make sense for Cardona to sign with AEW, especially since their superstars often make appearances with independent promotions.

That being said, fans won’t know for sure unless Cardona defeats Jericho for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle 2024.

Cardona began his professional wrestling career with New York Wrestling Connection under the name Brett Matthews in a tag team with Brian Myers.

In 2006, Cardona signed a developmental deal with WWE. He and Myers changed their names to Brett Majors and Brian Majors. In 2007, they moved up to the main roster and formed the La Familia stable with Edge and Vickie Guerrero.

During his 14-year tenure with WWE, Cardona took on multiple different personas, including the “Long Island Loudmouth.” He began to become a fan-favorite when he took to YouTube to promote his character without the help of WWE management.

Although this got him over with fans, he was seemingly punished by WWE management with bad booking until he was eventually released in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Cardona took this success and focused his energy on the independent wrestling scene. He quickly became one of the most popular and successful independent wrestlers ever, dubbing himself “The Indy God.”

Now, it looks like Cardona could carry these decades of success to ROH and AEW. Hopefully, this won’t be...
