Apple’s latest product launch has been praised by some fans and heralded as concerning by others.
Apple has been a divisive company for decades now, regularly having one camp laud the technology company as responsible for some of the greatest inventions of the modern age, and another camp convinced they bring nothing good or genuinely innovative to the table.
Well, the launch of the Apple Vision Pro has reinvigorated the debate on the company’s many products.
The company has said it hopes to blur the lines between the real and virtual world (yikes) with a wearable display that allows the user to have access to multiple screens in an augmented reality.
“With Apple Vision Pro, you have an infinite canvas that transforms how you use the apps you love,” the company’s website says.
“Arrange apps anywhere and scale them to the perfect size, making the workspace of your dreams a reality — all while staying present in the world around you. Browse the web in Safari, create a to-do list in Notes, chat in Messages, and seamlessly move between them with a glance.”
However, a video showcasing people use the device has some insisting it is a sign that the ‘end is near’ for humanity. And it’s difficult to disagree. Watch below:
Despite sitting together, the pair don’t appear to be interacting with one another but rather gesturing with their hands to interact with the augmented display.
Some have gone as far to say that this video is reminiscent of a scene out of the dark drama Black Mirror, which focusses on what can go wrong when humans don’t use technology responsibly.
“Vision Pro at $300 would be the end of humanity,” one user remarked in reference to the current $3,499 price tag for the tech.
“For work applications like aircraft mechanic work or surgeons, automotive work applications would be great. But everyone isolating themselves from social networks and life is scary,” another wrote.
“This just boggles my mind and also makes me weep for the future if this becomes the norm,” another concerned social media user wrote.
“Guys how bad is this… how can you eat with a person and don’t even talk with him/her… where definitely passing the limit,” a fourth wrote.
“For them lost type of ppl who’s stuck in this matrix yeah it’s near [the end] for them,”
Are you worried about what the future looks like due to these technological developments?
