Texans RB Joe Mixon Avoids Potentially Significant Injury on Hip Drop Tackle

The Houston Texans were nearly hit with a significant injury, as star running back Joe Mixon went down after a hip drop tackle. Mixon was shown on the ground for a long time and looked to be in significant pain.

Following the tackle that wrapped Mixon up, he was shown walking off the field of his own power. Thankfully, he has since returned to the lineup.

The initial scene was quite frightening, as Mixon was on the turf for a long time. The training staff immediately came out to tend to him, and things looked quite serious.

Once Mixon walked off the field, he immediately went to the bench, which was a good sign. Had he gone to the blue medical tent, or the locker room, the Texans might have had to rule him out.

Mixon has been fantastic this season, securing 887 yards and 11 touchdowns. He has also done that in 10 games. Mixon has dealt with an ankle injury this season, that kept him out of action.

Despite the ankle injury, Mixon returned to action to help jumpstart the Texans’ offense. Houston has had an up-and-down season thus far, and they are looking to secure their ninth win of the season.

The Texans are aiming to lock up the AFC South, which would happen if they beat the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, and the Indianapolis Colts lose to the Denver Broncos. Should Houston bring in the AFC South crown, they won’t have to worry about beating out the other playoff hopefuls with a Wildcard playoff spot.

Losing Mixon for any part of the game would have made that task more risky, and he avoided a serious injury after the hip drop tackle from the Dolphins/

The Dolphins are also chasing their seventh win against the Texans on Sunday. Miami is chasing a coveted wildcard playoff spot but has an uphill battle to climb. They are currently behind the Colts and the Denver Broncos in the wildcard playoff race.

A big win against the Texans would help propel them up the list, but the Dolphins are already struggling. At the time of this writing, they trail the Texans with a 10-6 score. Miami is down two starting offensive linemen, and the Texans’ defense is taking full advantage of that.

The Texans have forced a fumble and have all but silenced the Dolphins’ offense thus far through the day.
