Donald Trump honored his late mother-in-law, Amalija Knavs, on social media following her death at the age of 78. He praised Knavs as a “great and beautiful mother” and “an incredible woman,” calling it “a very sad night for the entire Trump family,” and included a picture of the two of them with his message.
Following Trump’s previous announcement during a New Year’s event about Knavs’ critical sickness, Melania Trump broke the news on Twitter/X, expressing her “deep sadness.”
Living in New York and visiting the White House on occasion while Trump was president, Amalija and her husband Viktor were close to the Trump family.
Austrian-born, Slovenian-raised, and employed in a textile mill, Knavs immigrated to the United States in 2018 and became a citizen. Melania, the daughter who married Donald Trump in 2005, and Ines, the daughter of Viktor, were their two daughters.
